Gebaute Basler Geschichte
Das Gebäudeensemble des Ackermannshofs ist ein einmaliges Lese- und Bilderbuch der Basler Kultur- und Wirtschaftsgeschichte vom 13. Jahrhundert bis heute: von der frühen Buchdruckerkunst über die Seidenbandfabrikation bis zur Arbeiterbewegung. Bauten, Gestaltungswille und Gebrauchsspuren aus mehr als 800 Jahren «Lebenszeit» sind eng verwoben, aber durch die Totalüberbauung der Parzelle aus den 1960er-Jahren verdeckt worden. Licht und Luft spenden nur noch zwei kleine Innenhöfe; innere Wegeführung und diverse Nutzungsüberlagerungen sind verwirrend. Mit dem Umbau wollen wir die Geschichte wieder sicht- und lesbar machen. Der gezielte Rückbau jüngerer Bauteile ermöglicht einen neuen, natürlich belichteten Wegraum im Inneren. Von hier aus sind die sorgfältig sanierten Gebäudeteile erreichbar. Das historische Vorderhaus, die Druckereihalle und das Künstleratelier von Dieter Roth werden so zu halböffentlichen Räumen – und zur Bühne für die Basler Kulturszene. 2011 werden die Sanierung und der Umbau des Ackermannshofs vom Heimatschutz Basel prämiert.
